Alcohol Sponsorship Ban Costing Ghana Football Millions – GFA President
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku says the ban on alcoholic beverage sponsorships is depriving Ghana football of millions of cedis in potential revenue.
Speaking at the ongoing 31st Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram today, Okraku stressed that lifting the restriction could open the door to significant financial opportunities for clubs and the league.
The banning of alcoholic beverage sponsorship is costing Ghana football millions of cedis,” he told delegates. “At a time when we are working hard to secure partners for our game, this restriction remains a huge obstacle.
The GFA boss noted that football relies heavily on corporate backing, and broadening the pool of eligible sponsors would be a major boost for the sport’s development in the country.
Okraku’s comments come as the Congress deliberated on key reforms and strategies to improve the financial sustainability of Ghanaian football.
