All Star Festival Honors Ghana’s Footballing Legends
The 3rd edition of the All Star Festival in Tamale, paid tribute to the nation’s footballing heroes of yesteryears during a special “legends night” event on the night of Friday, June 21, at the Mariam Hotel’s conference room.
The occasion celebrated the achievements and contributions of former players who have shaped the football history in Ghana.
This event followed a day of insightful discussions at the Sports Business Series, highlighting the All Star Festival’s commitment to both celebrating the past and building a strong future for Ghanaian football.
A distinguished crowd gathered for the legends night, including retired footballers with deep roots in the northern region of Ghana. Among the honoured guests were Abedi “Pele” Ayew, Mohammed Gargo, Mas-ud Didi Dramani (current head coach of Ghana’s U23 Black Galaxies), Anane Kobo, Hamza Mohammed, Mohammed “Choo” Abdulai, Amusa Gbadamoshie, and Abubakari Damba, Shila Illiasu, Alhaji Dawuda Jaato, among others.
Each legend received a special token of appreciation – a signed and framed Ghana jersey bearing their name.
The night transcended into a beautiful display of unity between generations. Several members of the All Star team were present, including rising stars like Leicester City’s Young Player of the Year, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, former Liberty Professionals captain Samuel Sarfo, and Cremonese forward Felix Afena-Gyan.
The event resonated deeply with the celebrated players. In an emotional moment, Mohammed Gargo uttered few words.
“It’s truly humbling to be recognized alongside such talented players. This night is a reminder of the passion and dedication that goes into this sport. It’s inspiring to see the next generation carrying the torch forward.”
Former premier league winning coach with Asante Kotoko, and current coach of the Black Galaxies, Mas-ud Didi Dramani commended the BAC Group for this initiative.
“This is a fantastic initiative by the organizers of All Star Festival. Events like these bridge the gap between generations and ensure that the stories and experiences of our footballing heroes are not forgotten. It’s vital for young players to understand the legacy they are a part of.”
Abubakari Damba also shared his excitement for being honoured on the night.
“The night was filled with joy and camaraderie. Sharing space with current players reignited the competitive spirit in all of us. These young talents have a bright future ahead, and I have no doubt they will continue to bring glory to Ghanaian football.”
The occasion was also a fun-filled night with lots to eat and drink.
Tamale’s upcoming artiste, Wizchild was at hand to entertain the audience with some local music.
The All Star Festival’s legends night served as a heartwarming tribute to Ghana’s footballing heroes, fostering a connection between past and present players while setting the stage for an exciting future in the sport.
