The opening group games of the Community Football Gala is set to conclude on Tuesday, 7th May, in Tamale with the game between Kukuo v Kakpagyilli.

The gala begun on Friday, May 3, after the launching of the All Star Festival 2024 the day before.

It has already served some mouth watering displays and wonderful performances from the various participating communities.

The opening game saw Lamashegu  narrowly beating Changli 1-0 at the NOBISCO Park in Tamale to claim all 3 points in Group A.

Awudu Mohammed Amin scored the only goal that ensured that Lamashegu grabbed a vital win in their opening game. He was adjudged Man of the Match (MOTM) at the end of the game and was rewarded at the end of the game by the organizers.

The games continued on Saturday, 4th May. In Group A, Sabonjida and Sagnerigu squared off in a game that ended 1-1 at the TAMASCO School Park. Karim Babamu (Sabonjida) was declared as the outstanding performer in this game.

On the same day, Group B action begun, Zobgeli fell to a 3-1 defeat to Aboabo. Sayibu Abdul Basit from Aboabo won the MOTM his display.

In  the same group, Moshie Zongo lost 2-1 to Hausa Zongo at Stadium Annex. The MOTM award went to Yakubu Abdallah from Hausa Zongo.

In the other games that concluded the first round, Sakasaka played out a goalless game against Kpalsi at TAMASCO Park. Asida Lucas from Kpalsi was adjudged as the best performer in that game.

Bayanwaya was 2-1 victors when they came up against Banvum at Nobisco Park. Bayanwaya’s Abdul Latif emerged as the Man of the Match and received his reward accordingly.

Nyohini succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Dagban Dabbi Fong at the Stadium Annex in a game that brought proceedings to an end of the first round. Iddrisu Napari won the MOTM award in this game for his dazzling display.

The Community Football Gala is a new initiative that has been added to the line of activities for the All Star Festival.

The aim of the gala is to unearth talents and give them the platform to show what they are made of.

Sixteen communities have been drawn into four groups of four to battle out for the ultimate prize come June, 23rd.

The final of the gala will serve as a curtain raiser for the main All Star game between a Northern select-side and the international stars at the Alui Mahama Stadium in Tamale.

The second round will begin on Friday, 10th May, with matches in Group A scheduled to be played on the said date.
