Eight communities have progressed to the quarter final stage of the All Star Festival Community Football Gala which is ongoing in Tamale.
Sagnerigu, Lamashegu, Hausa Zongo, Zogbeli, Kakpagyilli, Sakasaka, Nyohini, and Dagban Dabi Fong are the communities that have secured qualification to the last eight after the group stage concluded on Sunday, May 26.
The Community Football Gala is a new addition to line up of activities as part of the third edition of the Business Africa Consulting Group’s flagship event, The All Star Festival which is slated for June in Tamale.
The Gala, which began on May 3, saw sixteen communities from Tamale grouped into four groups of four. They competed in a group format where all teams in a group played against each other and the top two teams from each group move to the quarters.
Sagnarigu and Lamashegu secured qualification in Group A ahead of Changli and Sabonjida. In Group B, Hausa Zongo and Zogbeli were the top two teams that progressed.
Kakpagyili and Sakasaka secured the top two spots in Group C to book a place in the last eight. Finally in Group D, Nyohini and Dagban Dabi Fong qualified tied on 6 points each.
Bayan Waya pushed Group D to the limit. Despite gaining 6 points in the Group, they narrowly missed out on qualification due to their inferior goal difference.
The quarter finals promise to serve some amazing football as the boys are separated from the men.
Group A winners, Sagnarigu will face Zogbeli who came runners-up in Group B. The second pairing in the quarters will see Group B winners, Hausa Zongo come up against Lamashegu, runners-up in Group A.
Kakpagyili, who finished tops in Group C will matchup against Group D runner-up, Dagban Dabi Fong in the third quarter final fixture. The game game of this round will see winners of Group D, Nyohini play against Sakasaka.
The winners of each last-8 fixture will qualify to the semi-final.
