British heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has expressed his admiration for Ghana and revealed plans to explore investment opportunities in the country’s boxing industry.
Joshua made these remarks during a courtesy visit to former President John Dramani Mahama following the highly anticipated “Battle of the Beasts” bout held Friday night in Bukom, a community known as the heartbeat of Ghana boxing.
The Olympic gold medalist and former unified world champion said he has been deeply impressed by the energy, hospitality, and boxing culture in Ghana during his short stay.
He indicated his interest in contributing to the sport’s development in the country, particularly through infrastructure, training, and youth empowerment.
I’ve really enjoyed my time here. The people, the culture, and the boxing tradition are all incredible. I’m definitely looking at ways to invest in Ghana boxing, Joshua told the former president during their meeting.
In response, President Mahama warmly welcomed the British-Nigerian boxer, hailing him as an international icon and a source of pride for Africans worldwide.
We are happy to have you. You’re an icon, Mahama said. If you want us to give you a Ghanaian passport, we will give you.
Anthony Joshua’s visit has been hailed as a major boost for the local boxing scene, with fans and stakeholders optimistic about future collaborations that could help elevate Ghana’s rich boxing heritage onto the global stage.
