Bayazid’s Late Strike Saves Algeria from Defeat Against Guinea in CHAN Thriller

Algeria preserved their unbeaten run at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a dramatic late equaliser to hold Guinea 1-1 in Friday’s Group C clash at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

Guinea appeared on course for a crucial victory when Ismaël Camara’s well-placed strike in the 62nd minute handed them the lead and a lifeline in the tournament.

However, their inability to kill off the game proved costly, with Yakhouba Barry heading over a golden chance to double the advantage.

The North Africans rallied in the final moments, and Soufiane Bayazid—having been denied just minutes earlier—slotted home in the 88th minute after fine work by Abderrahmane Meziane to rescue a point.

The draw leaves Uganda top of Group C on six points, Algeria second with five, and Guinea’s hopes of progression hanging by a thread on four.

Algeria will now look to seal a quarter-final spot in their final group match against Niger, while Guinea are left lamenting another squandered lead.
