Former vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe has urged the Football Association to prioritize qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

His remarks come after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades having recorded three draws and three defeats.

The team finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points.

With the Mundial qualifiers scheduled to resume in March later this year, Pappoe is urging the leadership of the GFA to qualify for the global showpiece.

According to him, it will be expensive for the country not to qualify.

“Qualification to the 2026 World Cup should be our top most priority. It will be more expensive not to qualify,” he told Accra-based Original FM.

After four games played, Ghana sit 2nd in Group I with nine points tied with nine points leaders Comoros.

In the Matchday five and six games, the Black Stars will take on Chad and Madagascar.
