Celtic Crushed by Rampant Dortmund as Adeyemi Hat-trick Leads Rout
Celtic’s unbeaten start to the season came to a crashing halt as Borussia Dortmund handed them a humbling 7-1 defeat in the Champions League.
The German side, inspired by a brilliant Karim Adeyemi, tore through the Scottish champions, leaving Brendan Rodgers’ men with a night to forget.
Dortmund took an early lead through an Emre Can penalty after Jamie Gittens’ pace forced Kasper Schmeichel into a clumsy challenge. Celtic responded swiftly with Daizen Maeda bundling in an equalizer from Arne Engels’ cross.
However, that brief moment of hope was quickly extinguished. Adeyemi ran riot, scoring twice before the break, including a stunning long-range strike. Serhou Guirassy added another from the spot, making it 4-1 before Adeyemi completed his hat-trick to give Dortmund a 5-1 lead at halftime.
Celtic managed to contain Dortmund for 20 minutes in the second half but another Guirassy goal, following an error by Alistair Johnson, made it 6-1. Felix Nmecha rounded off the scoring, capitalizing on Celtic’s defensive collapse to smash in the seventh goal.
Rodgers’ side, who had enjoyed a strong domestic run, appeared shell-shocked and struggled to cope with the speed and intensity of their German opponents. Despite some flashes of attacking intent, Celtic’s defense was repeatedly exposed by Dortmund’s pace and precision.
The defeat leaves Celtic with much to ponder as they prepare for their next Champions League test against Atalanta. Meanwhile, Dortmund look ahead to a clash with Real Madrid in what promises to be another high-stakes encounter.
Rodgers has vowed not to change his approach, but after this heavy loss, questions are mounting about Celtic’s ability to compete at the highest level in Europe.
