Head coach of Ghana’s U20 national team, Desmond Ofei, has praised the fighting spirit of his players following their narrow but crucial victory over the Central African Republic in the final Group C match of the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Satellites secured a 1-0 win at the Suez Canal Stadium, thanks to an 84th-minute strike from Joseph Opoku. The victory saw Ghana finish top of Group C, earning a quarterfinal spot with a game to spare.
Speaking after the match, Coach Ofei admitted it was a tough and tense encounter, crediting the Central African Republic for their spirited performance and acknowledging the challenges his side faced.
It was a tricky match. The CAR boys fought really hard and made it difficult for us at times. We lost a number of balls in our own half, which gave them some confidence and momentum, but I’m proud of the resilience the boys showed,.Coach Ofei told the media.
The Ghana boss commended his team for remaining focused and showing character under pressure, especially in the closing stages of the game when it mattered most.
