Felix Romark Urges GPL Teams to Improve Set Pieces and Shot Quality
Football analyst Felix Romark has called on Ghana Premier League (GPL) teams to enhance their execution of set pieces and improve the quality of their shots to raise the standard of the league.
Speaking on “Inside the Ghana Premier League” on The BAC Sports, Romark highlighted that poor conversion rates from free kicks, corners, and shots on target are holding back the league’s competitiveness and overall appeal.
“Set pieces and the quality of shots are areas where Ghana Premier League teams must improve. These are critical moments that can decide games, but too often, we see corners, free kicks, and even open-play shots wasted,” Romark said.
He added that in modern football, set pieces are a potent weapon for scoring goals and that teams must invest in specialized training for players in this regard.
“Look at the top leagues in Europe; teams dedicate hours to perfecting set pieces. They see it as an opportunity to win games, especially against tougher opponents. We need that level of seriousness here too,” he explained.
Romark also touched on the importance of shot accuracy, urging players to work on precision rather than just power:
“It’s not just about taking shots; it’s about hitting the target. Too often, we see players blasting the ball over the bar when they could have composed themselves to make the goalkeeper work.”
His comments come at a time when the GPL has seen a significant number of low-scoring games, with teams struggling to convert their chances.
Romark’s recommendations include clubs employing set-piece coaches and using video analysis to identify patterns and weaknesses in opponents’ defensive setups.
