Heart of Lions make Kpando a fortress: Go 11 games without conceding
Kpando Heart of Lions continue to solidify the Kpando Sports Stadium as a fortress in the Ghana Premier League, extending their remarkable home defensive record to 11 consecutive games without conceding, a run that stretches back to last season.
This impressive streak highlights their exceptional organization at the back and positions them as serious contenders in the ongoing season.
The last time Lions conceded at home was nearly eight months ago when Bibiani Goldstars scored twice in a 2-2 draw. Since then, the team has been unbreakable on home soil, a run that has been instrumental in their rise to third place on the league table.
Over the weekend, Lions brushed aside Legon Cities scoring three times without a reply from the visitors.
Not only are they not conceding, they’re also proving to be unbeatable. Lions have lost once in their lat 20 games, again, a run that stretches back from last season.
The only defeat during this time came against Karela United this season on the road where they lost 1-0. This has also been the only defeat for Lions this season after 12 matches.
Again, Heart of Lions have only conceded four goals in their 12 league games this season, all coming in away matches.
Their stellar defensive performance is anchored by goalkeeper Osei Lawrence, who has kept eight clean sheets—joint-most in the league after 12 matches.
Mohammed Shaban, a Ghana Premier League statistician, speaking on the Ghana Premier League on “Inside the Ghana Premier League” on the BAC Sports Platform was full of praise for Lions and their goalkeeper, Osei Lawrence.
“Heart of Lions have gone eleven games without conceding a goal at home in the Ghana Premier League and Osei Lawrence has been phenomenal in this regard,” said Mohammed Shaban, a Ghana Premier League statistician. “His consistency and command of the defense have been key to this record-breaking run.”
“This is not just about individual brilliance; it’s about teamwork,” Shaban noted during an appearance on Inside the Ghana Premier League on the BAC Sports platform. “Heart of Lions have mastered the art of defending as a unit, and it’s paying off. They have built a fortress in Kpando.”
The team’s defensive solidity has kept them within striking distance of league leaders Bibiani Goldstars, who sit just two points ahead. With Heart of Lions in third place and continuing their strong form, the title race promises to be fiercely contested.
Shaban also highlighted the significance of their form in the broader context of the league: “The Lions’ home record is not just impressive—it’s historic. Going 11 games without conceding at home is a testament to their preparation and discipline. It’s a rare feat in the Ghana Premier League.”
With only 12 matches played, their defensive record gives them a solid foundation to build on as they chase their first league title.
Their next challenge will test their ability to sustain this form, but with Osei Lawrence and a disciplined backline spearheaded by captain Ebenezer Abban, leading the charge, Heart of Lions are proving to be one of the toughest sides to break down in the league.
If they continue this level of performance, they could rewrite more records and cement their place among the top teams in Ghanaian football. As Shaban concluded, “Heart of Lions are setting the standard for defensive excellence in the league. They are a team to watch this season.”
