Leverkusen Determined to Avoid “One-Season Wonder” Tag – Jeremie Frimpong

Dutch international and Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong has expressed his team’s determination to maintain their dominance in German football following their historic Bundesliga title win last season.

Leverkusen stunned the football world in the 2023/2024 season by clinching their first-ever Bundesliga title, achieving the feat with an unbeaten record.

The Xabi Alonso-led team also lifted the German Cup, though they fell short of a historic treble, losing 3-0 to Atalanta in the Europa League final.

Speaking to Citi Sports during his Christmas holiday visit to Ghana, the 24-year-old Frimpong emphasized the team’s focus on consistency as they aim to replicate last season’s success.

“Last season was great; what we did for Leverkusen, we created history for the first time… and now because we are champions, we want to keep the consistency. We don’t want to be known as a one-season wonder… so we want the consistency,” Frimpong stated.

The dynamic wing-back has been an integral part of Leverkusen’s campaign this season, contributing two goals and four assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances. His form has been instrumental in keeping the team competitive as they chase back-to-back league titles.

Leverkusen’s remarkable success last season saw them topple German giants Bayern Munich who had won the title on eleven consecutive occasions, and cement their place in history with a flawless league campaign.

Frimpong’s comments highlight the club’s ambition to build on this foundation and establish themselves as a consistent force in German and European football.
