Nyohini has won the inaugural edition of the All Star Festival Community Football Gala after beating Lamashegu 2-0 in the final at the Alui Mahama Stadium on June 22.
Both communities started the game cautiously, making clear cut goal scoring chances a rarity in the opening minutes.
However, it was Nyohini who made the first opportunity count when they opened the scoring through Napari Iddrisu after a neat one-two pass opened up the Lamashegu defense for him to power a low drive past the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner of the Lamashegu goal.
After conceding, Lamashegu had no choice than to come out of their blocks to attack the Nyohini goal. The created a series of half chances but the failed to convert any into goal.
Their nearest to scoring came in the 36th minute when Abdul Majeed found himself one on one with Nyohini’s goalie but he over elaborated, deciding to take extra touches that caused his final effort to be blocked by a back rushing Nyohini defender.
The half ended 1-0 in Nyohini’s favour.
After the recess, Lamashegu came out with all guns blazing, showing their intentions very early on the second half, and pushing for an equalizer that proved elusive.
Nyohini finally put the game to bed when they added their second of the night midway through the second half.
The match served as a precursor to the All Star game which came off later that same day under the Tamale Stadium lights.
The community gala started in May with 16 communities that were grouped into four groups of four.
