The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has voiced his disappointment over the current state of the Black Stars, calling the team a “disgrace.” He urged the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to take swift action to restore the national team to its former glory.
Otumfuo made these comments during the minister’s visit to the Manhyia Palace on Friday, February 14. He emphasized the importance of football in uniting Ghanaians, stressing that the Black Stars’ success is a source of national pride.
“The Black Stars are now a disgrace. Now that you’re the Minister, make sure you restore the team to its former glory days. Football brings people together. When it’s Black Stars, everyone wants to hear they’ve won,” he stated.
As the owner and life patron of Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo’s remarks reflect growing concerns among Ghanaians about the team’s recent performances. Many are calling for reforms to revive the dominance the Black Stars once had on the international stage.
The Black Stars are set to return to action in March, facing Chad and Madagascar in the Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
