Prosper Ogum Addresses Pressure Issue as Kotoko Thrives at Obuasi Temporary Home

Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has opened up about the constant pressure his team faces, as they continue adjusting to playing their home matches at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium this season.

The Porcupine Warriors have been displaced from their iconic Baba Yara Sports Stadium due to ongoing renovations, yet their resilience remains unshaken.

On matchday seven of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, Kotoko secured a narrow 1-0 victory against defending champions FC Samartex, extending their unbeaten streak.

Despite the setting, Ogum highlighted the persistent expectations from their passionate fanbase, which follows the team wherever they play.

“Everywhere Kotoko plays, there is pressure,” Ogum acknowledged, emphasizing that the burden of expectation is not limited to their usual home ground in Kumasi. “It’s not only at Baba Yara, here [at Obuasi] too, there is pressure, but I think we have managed it very well.”

Ogum expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to handle this pressure, noting that the team has successfully adapted to the challenges of their temporary home.

He also hinted at plans to strengthen the squad during the second round of the season, aiming to address areas of concern, particularly in terms of squad depth.

“We will strengthen the team in areas where we need reinforcement,” Ogum explained. “If you look at our squad, we have fewer numbers, so we need to augment it.”

The coach also tackled the issue of goal-scoring, expressing optimism that their efforts would soon bear fruit.

“If you compare our shots on target, they are more than in previous games. Now that the shots are hitting the target and the goalkeepers are saving them, it is only a matter of time before they find the back of the net. It’s a gradual process.”
