Sesko the Latest to Snub Newcastle United as Top Targets Favour Rival Clubs

Despite boasting the backing of the world’s richest ownership, Newcastle United continues to struggle in its pursuit of elite-level signings ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The latest blow to the Magpies’ recruitment ambitions is RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško, who has reportedly turned down a move to St. James’ Park in favour of joining Manchester United. Newcastle had tabled a bid worth over €90 million, but the Slovenian forward is understood to have set his sights on Old Trafford.

Sesko, latest player to reject Newcastle

Manchester United, who had long admired Šeško, waited for a green light from the player before formalizing their approach. Following encouragement from the striker’s camp, the Red Devils submitted a bid reportedly worth €85 million including add-ons, which, although lower than Newcastle’s offer, has pushed them ahead in the race.

Šeško now joins a growing list of high-profile targets who have rejected Newcastle in favour of rival Premier League clubs.

Earlier in the transfer window, 23-year-old João Pedro opted to sign for Chelsea after turning down Newcastle. The Brazilian went on to shine for the Blues, scoring three goals in the Club World Cup, helping them lift the trophy.

Another setback came in the form of Hugo Ekitike. Newcastle reportedly offered €75 million for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, but the bid was rejected. Liverpool then swooped in and secured Ekitike’s signature for €90 million including add-ons, further frustrating Newcastle’s transfer business.

The urgent need for a striker has been intensified by reports that Alexander Isak is eyeing a move away from Tyneside, with Liverpool showing concrete interest. Newcastle have slapped a £150 million price tag on the Swedish international, having already rejected a £120 million offer from the  Anfield based club.

With Benjamin Šeško now seemingly off the table, Newcastle are turning their attention to alternative options including Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), and Yoane Wissa (Brentford).

The coming weeks will be crucial as the Magpies aim to reinforce their squad and keep pace with their top-six rivals.
