Ghana’s Black Queens have sealed a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they will face Algeria.
The team progressed from Group C after finishing second, following a strong response to a difficult start to the tournament in Morocco.
Ghana opened their campaign with a 2-0 loss to defending champions South Africa, before being held to a 1-1 draw by Mali in a hard-fought second match.
Needing a win in their final group game to stay in the tournament, the Queens rose to the occasion, producing a commanding 4-1 victory over Tanzania under the guidance of head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren.
The result secured all three points and a place in the knockout stage, setting up a quarter-final showdown with Algeria on Saturday, July 19.
