Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankra, has opened up about the challenges faced in preparing the Accra Sports Stadium for Ghana’s recent FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.
Speaking in an interview on Original FM, Mr. Ampofo Ankra revealed that in the days leading up to the crucial fixture, the floodlights at the stadium were non-functional, posing a major threat to the successful organization of the evening match.
The floodlights at the Accra Sports Stadium weren’t working, and it was a serious concern,” he stated. “We had to quickly move to Cape Coast and bring some of the lights from there to fix the problem.
He went on to commend Moses Armah Parker, owner of Medeama SC, for his generous financial contribution towards resolving the issue. According to Mr. Ampofo Ankra, the Medeama boss played a vital role in ensuring the lighting system was restored in time for the match.
It took the support of individuals like Moses Armah Parker, who contributed financially to make it happen, he disclosed.
The NSA chief also extended his appreciation to a number of journalists and the Light Engineering team who worked tirelessly to install and test the lighting system under tight deadlines, ensuring the stadium was ready to host the Black Stars and their opponents.
