The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has awarded the Black Queens of Ghana a $2,000 cash bonus each for advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana’s journey began with a 2-0 loss to South Africa, followed by a 1-1 stalemate against Mali. But the Queens bounced back in style, thrashing Tanzania 4-1 in their final Group C clash to finish second with four points — sealing a quarter-final berth for the first time since 2015.
In recognition of their efforts and to boost morale ahead of the knockout stage, the Sports Ministry presented the team with a financial reward.
The Black Queens will take on Algeria on Saturday, August 19, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, with kick-off set for 16:00 GMT, as they chase a semi-final spot in the prestigious continental competition.
