The first round of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League (GPL) has been a testament to the strength of home advantage. Out of 153 games played across various league centers, home teams emerged victorious on 71 occasions. Away teams, meanwhile, managed only 30 wins, while 54 matches ended in draws.
League leaders, Bibiani GoldStars, after 17 games, have been one of the standout performers at home. They recorded an impressive seven home wins, the most by any team in the league. Bechem United, Asante Kotoko, and Heart of Lions follow closely with six home wins each.
GoldStars, are chasing their maiden Premier League title since joining the competition in the 2021/22 season. They have not only dominated at home but also shown remarkable consistency, ending the first round as the team with the most wins overall.
Away victories, however, have been more difficult. Only 10 of the 18 teams managed to secure a win on the road during the first round. Nations FC emerged as the best-performing away side, securing an impressive five wins on the road.
Accra Lions and Medeama SC will set the stage for the second round of the 2024/2025 GPL, when they face off at the Legon Sports Stadium on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
