Coach Dr. Ogum Backs Black Starlets’ Mental Strength Ahead of Ivory Coast Showdown

Black Starlets coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum says his side is ready both mentally and tactically for their crunch Group A clash with hosts Ivory Coast at the ongoing WAFU Zone B U17 Boys Championship in Yamoussoukro.

Speaking after the team’s final training session on Monday, Dr. Ogum highlighted the resilience and discipline shown by his young charges in their opening 1-1 draw with Togo, where Ghana played almost the entire game with ten men.

“What impressed me most in our first game was the mentality of the boys,” he said. “They stuck to the plan, showed character, and never gave up. That’s the kind of spirit you need in tournaments like this.”

The coach stressed that while improving conversion has been part of their preparations, it is the psychological edge and tactical awareness of his players that gives him confidence heading into Tuesday’s encounter.

“We have worked on the small details, the transitions, the pressing, and decision-making under pressure. Against the host nation, we will need to be disciplined but also brave with the ball. I believe the boys are ready,” he added.

With the group finely poised, the Black Starlets know that victory over Ivory Coast would put them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages. For Dr. Ogum, however, the message is simple: focus, discipline, and belief.
