Kumasi Asante Kotoko secured a much-needed win on Sunday, defeating league leaders Samartex 1-0 to finally end their seven-game winless run in the Ghana Premier League to bring them a sigh of relief.

The match proved to be a tense affair, with both sides struggling to convert their chances.

However, Kotoko found the breakthrough in the 61st minute when they were awarded a penalty.

Enock Morrison stepped up and calmly converted the spot-kick to give the Porcupine Warriors a vital lead.

Despite Samartex’s late push for an equalizer, Kotoko held firm to secure all three points.

This victory will be a major relief for the Asante Kotoko faithfuls, who had been growing increasingly frustrated with their team’s recent slump.

Kotoko will now be hoping to use this win as a springboard for a return to form in the remaining matches of the season.

They currently sit in 10th position in the league table, and a strong finish could see them climb into a more respectable position.

Asante Kotoko head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, expressed his excitement after finally getting a win after eight league games.

“Football is only about winning especially when you coach a club like Asante Kotoko”.
