FC Samartex scripted their names into Ghanaian football history on Sunday, June 2, by securing the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title with a victory over Bibiani GoldStars at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex.
This remarkable achievement comes just one season after their promotion to the top flight, marking a meteoric rise for the “Timber Giants.”
Nurudeen Amadu’s men have clinched the championship with two matches remaining in the season, capitalizing on defeats to title rivals Aduana Stars and Medeama SC.
The pivotal moment arrived just before halftime when Emmanuel Mamah netted the all-important goal, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and propelling Samartex into an unassailable lead.
The match was briefly interrupted by heavy downpours that threatened to postpone the game. However, following a thorough inspection of the pitch, the second half resumed without further delay. The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes at the Nsenkyire Stadium, as Samartex fans erupted in celebration of their historic triumph.
Samartex now join an esteemed group of Western Region clubs to claim the championship crown, following in the footsteps of Sekondi Eleven Wise, Hasaacas, and most recently, Medeama SC.
Samartex’ path to glory was paved with consistency. Across their 32 league matches, they emerged victorious in 18, drew four, and suffered only 10 defeats.
This impressive record, coupled with their vital win over Bibiani GoldStars, secures their place as the undisputed champions of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
