The Three Lions of England have booked their place in the Euro 2024 final after a dramatic 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in a tense semi-final clash at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.
Substitute Oliver Watkins emerged as the hero, snatching the winning goal in the 91st minute just as the game seemed destined for extra time.
The Dutch took a surprise lead early on, with Xavi Simons firing past Jordan Pickford in the 7th minute.
However, England responded quickly, with Harry Kane converting a penalty in the 18th minute to restore parity.
The remainder of the first half saw both sides battle for control, with chances at a premium.
After the break, the Netherlands appeared the more threatening team, forcing Pickford into a couple of smart saves.
England, on the other hand, struggled to create clear opportunities, relying on sporadic bursts from Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden on the flanks.
With the clock ticking down and the tension mounting, Gareth Southgate made two crucial substitutions, bringing on Oliver Watkins and Cole Palmer for Harry Kane and Phil Foden respectively in the 81st minute.
The change proved to be a masterstroke, as Palmer set up Watkins in the 91st minute to seal the win and send the English fans into raptures.
This victory marks England’s second consecutive Euro final appearance, having fallen short against Italy in a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss at Euro 2020 at Wembley.
The Three Lions will now set their sights on redemption as they face Spain in the final at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on Sunday, July 14th.
England will be aiming to end their long wait for a major trophy, their last silverware coming in the 1966 World Cup.
