Real Tamale United (RTU) have been handed a hefty fine by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee for fielding unregistered players in a Ghana Premier League match against Dreams FC.

The club has been fined GHc100,000 for breaching Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, which prohibits behavior that brings the game into disrepute.

RTU admitted to the charges, explaining that their registered players had refused to travel for the match due to unpaid salaries, forcing them to field unregistered players.

In addition to the fine, five RTU officials – Iddi Manzah Alhassan, Abdul-Samed Iddrisu, Abdul-Gafaru Salifu, Tanko Jentumah, and Sylvester Yaw Apanka – have been handed one-year bans from all football-related activities.

RTU paraded a squad of unregistered players for their outstanding GPL matchday 28 encounter against Dreams FC on June 12, a game that ended 8-1 for Dreams

The GFA’s decision to impose sanctions is seen as a strong message to clubs to adhere to the league’s regulations.
