West Ham United have strengthened their defensive line with the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United.

The 26-year-old full-back has put pen to paper on a seven-year deal, marking a return to his hometown of London.

Wan-Bissaka initially left the capital in 2019 when he joined Manchester United in a £50 million deal. Despite making 190 appearances for the Red Devils, the defender struggled for regular playing time under manager Erik ten Hag.

The move to West Ham represents a fresh start for Wan-Bissaka, who is excited about the prospect of joining a team with a strong sense of camaraderie. “It was a no brainer for me to join West Ham,” he said. “I can’t wait to get on the pitch, get to know the players, and push on from there.”

West Ham manager Julien Lopetegui  will be hoping Wan-Bissaka can add experience and stability to his backline.

The defender’s arrival follows the signings of Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville, Luis Guilherme, Niclas Fullkrug, Wes Foderingham, Max Kilman, and Guido Rodriguez, as the Hammers look to build a squad capable of challenging for European places.

Manchester United’s decision to sell Wan-Bissaka is part of their summer rebuild, with the club also closing in on a deal for Bayern Munich full-back, Noussair Mazraoui.

Both West Ham and Manchester United kick off their Premier League campaigns on the weekend of 16th August, with the Hammers hosting Aston Villa and United welcoming Fulham to Old Trafford.
