Ghanaian Defender Nicholas Opoku Makes Move to Kasimpasa
Ghanaian international Nicholas Opoku has found a new home in Turkey, signing with Kasimpasa SK of the Süper Lig.
The 27-year-old center-back joins the club on a free transfer after his contract with French side Amiens SC expired at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Opoku’s arrival was officially announced on Monday after he successfully passed his medical examination at the Liv Hospital Vadi İstanbul. He is expected to bolster Kasimpasa’s backline, bringing experience and leadership to the squad.
The Ghanaian defender spent the last three seasons with Amiens, making 23 appearances in Ligue 2 during the recently concluded campaign.
Prior to his stint in France, Opoku played for Udinese Calcio in Serie A after starting his professional career in his home country with Berekum Chelsea before moving to Club Africain in Tunisia.
Opoku is a familiar face for Ghanaian football fans, having earned 18 caps for the Black Stars since his debut in a friendly match against the United States in July 2017.
This move to Turkey could be a chance for him to revitalize his career and potentially increase his playing time with the national team.
Kasimpasa will be hoping that Opoku’s experience and defensive prowess can help them challenge for a top-half finish in the Süper Lig this season.
