Hearts of Oak Secure First Win of the Season with Victory over Bechem United

Accra Hearts of Oak finally registered their first win of the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League season with a 2-0 victory over Bechem United.

The game, held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, saw the Phobians break free from their early season slump, much to the relief of their loyal fans.

Having suffered two consecutive defeats at the hands of Basake Holystars and Heart of Lions in their first two games, the pressure was mounting on Hearts of Oak. This time, however, the team came out determined, controlling much of the first half.

Despite their dominance, the Phobians struggled to find the back of the net, with a series of missed chances resulting in a goalless first 45 minutes.

Six minutes into the second half, Hearts finally broke the deadlock. Ransford Mensah, the team’s left-back, struck a sublime free-kick to give his side the lead. The goal sparked a spirited performance from both teams, with Bechem United also pressing for an equalizer.

However, Hearts of Oak doubled their advantage 13 minutes from time, courtesy of Hamza Issah, who netted his first goal of the season. This goal all but secured the Phobians’ much-needed victory.

The win was a crucial morale booster for Hearts of Oak, who had endured a difficult start to the season. Their fans, who have been longing for success after the slow start, celebrated the victory with great enthusiasm.

Up next for the Phobians is a tricky away fixture against Nations FC at the Dr. Kyei Sports Complex on Matchday 4, where they will look to build on their newfound momentum.
