Baidoo, Abu, Adjetey, and Sadick Called Up for Black Stars’ AFCON Qualifiers Against Sudan

In preparation for Ghana’s crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan, head coach Otto Addo has called up four new players to the Black Stars squad.

Michael Baidoo, Abu Francis, Jonas Adjetey, and Ibrahim Sadick have been drafted in as replacements for the injured quartet of Thomas Partey, Joseph Painstil, Kingsley Schindler, and Ibrahim Osman.

Michael Baidoo, a 25-year-old attacking midfielder, currently plies his trade with IF Elfsborg in the Swedish top flight. A former Vision FC player, Baidoo began his career in Ghana before moving to Europe, where he joined Danish side FC Midtjylland.

His experience spans clubs such as Fredericia, Jerv, and Sandnes Ulf, and he has become a key performer for Elfsborg, regularly featuring in both the Swedish league and the UEFA Europa League.

Abu Francis, a product of the Right To Dream Academy, has continued to impress for Cercle Brugge in Belgium. The versatile midfielder made his international debut for Ghana in a friendly against Uganda in March and has been a regular figure in the Black Stars setup since.

He featured in Ghana’s recent AFCON qualifiers, playing in the loss to Angola and the draw against Niger last month.

Jonas Adjetey, the 20-year-old defender, steps into the squad to further bolster Ghana’s defensive options.

Adjetey has been making waves in the Swiss Super League, playing for FC Basel. The former Accra Great Olympics and Berekum Chelsea defender was recently invited to the national team, following his stellar performances abroad, after Alexander Djiku’s injury.

Ibrahim Sadick, another talent from the Right To Dream Soccer Academy, brings his experience from Dutch football with AZ Alkmaar.

A former FC Nordsjaelland player, Sadick is known for his technical skills and football intelligence, and he will be looking to make a positive impact in the AFCON qualifiers.

The Black Stars will face Sudan in two important back-to-back qualifiers. The first leg is scheduled for Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, while the second leg will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

These matches are vital for Ghana as they aim to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament. With injuries to key players, the inclusion of Baidoo, Francis, Adjetey, and Sadick will offer fresh options and energy to the squad.

The Black Stars will be looking to bounce back on track in the qualifiers and strengthen their chances of reaching the tournament in Morocco.
