FIFA imposes transfer ban on Tanzania’s Yanga SC Over unpaid debt to Ghanaian forward, Augustine Okrah
Tanzanian club Young Africans SC (Yanga) have been handed a transfer ban for failing to meet financial obligations to Augustine Okrah.
The FIFA ban follows a previous ruling which directed Yanga to pay the Ghanaian forward an outstanding amount of $24,400 for his time at the club.
Despite the mandate, the club has not fulfilled its payment obligations, leading FIFA to take disciplinary action.
In an official letter dated November 11, 2024, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, headed by Amãrico Espalargas, announced the ban, restricting Yanga from registering new players internationally until the full debt to Okrah is settled.
FIFA has also instructed the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) to implement a similar national registration ban, reinforcing compliance.
The transfer ban comes at a crucial time for Yanga, with the mid-season transfer window on the horizon. It could significantly impact the club’s efforts to reinforce its squad for domestic and continental competitions.
Resolving this issue promptly will be essential for Yanga to regain its operational flexibility and maintain its reputation on the international stage.
Okrah, who plays for Ghanaian side Bechem United, spent just eight months at Yanga.
