Ghana has slipped four spots to 77th in FIFA’s latest rankings for November, following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Previously ranked 73rd globally and 14th in Africa in October, Ghana’s position dropped after a disappointing performance in the AFCON qualifiers. The team managed only three points from three draws while suffering three losses.
In November, Ghana drew 1-1 with Angola in their penultimate qualifier before losing 2-1 at home to Niger in their final game, finishing at the bottom of Group F. Despite these setbacks, Ghana retained its 14th position in Africa, trailing Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR Congo, Burkina Faso, and Cape Verde.
Niger, Ghana’s Group F rival, was the month’s biggest climber, jumping nine places to 122nd.
The decline in Ghana’s rankings reflects a lackluster 2024 campaign. The team’s highest position this year was 67th in February, followed by rankings of 68th in April, 64th in June, 68th in July, 70th in September, 73rd in October, and now 77th in November.
The Black Stars are set to return to action in March for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
