Young Apostles President, Sammy Anim Addo, accuses GFA of deploying referee Maxwell Hanson for “dirty works” and warns against foul tactics.
Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Sammy Anim Addo has strongly criticized the GFA, accusing referee Maxwell Hanson of being their go-to official for controversial actions. His comments follow complaints from Accra Lions about questionable officiating in their 1-0 loss to Dreams FC.
Accra Lions claim they were “robbed” and have called for reforms in Ghanaian football. Meanwhile, Dreams FC defended Hanson, arguing that poor officiating is a challenge faced by all clubs.
Anim Addo, now the President of Young Apostles, joined the chorus of criticism, branding Hanson a “hatchet man.” In a post on X, he accused GFA leadership of silencing him when he previously raised concerns about officiating standards.
“Maxwell Hanson is their man for ‘dirty works,’” Anim Addo wrote. “I raised these issues months ago but was met with attempts to silence me by the GFA leadership. His disgraceful conduct tarnishes the league’s credibility.”
Anim Addo also alleged threats of relegation for his team, stating, “I have been repeatedly warned that this GFA administration will use foul tactics to ensure my club, Young Apostles, is relegated. But I want to caution them: that’s not the worst they can do to me or my unwavering investment in Ghana football.”
The controversy surrounding Hanson’s decisions in the Dreams FC vs. Accra Lions match has triggered widespread criticism, with fans and stakeholders expressing dissatisfaction with the officiating.
