The President of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama has nominated Kofi Iddie Adams, the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency in the Oti Region, as the Minister of Sports and Recreation.

Adams is part of the third set of ministerial nominees submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for vetting and approval. If confirmed, he will succeed Mustapha Ussif, who served as Minister of Youth and Sports from 2021 during former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s tenure.

A former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Adams is widely recognized for his enthusiasm for sports, particularly boxing. Many within Ghana’s sports community are hopeful that his appointment will rejuvenate the country’s sports sector and restore its past glory.

Before taking office, Adams must go through the parliamentary vetting process. At 49, he boasts a strong political background, having served as the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC and later as National Organizer following the party’s National Executive elections in December 2014.

In 2016, he was appointed campaign coordinator for the NDC’s 15-member national campaign team during the general elections. His political expertise and leadership abilities have earned him significant respect within and beyond the NDC.

As the sports community awaits his official appointment, stakeholders are optimistic that Kofi Adams will introduce policies to revitalize sports development, improve facilities, and enhance Ghana’s performance on the international stage.
