A devastating incident unfolded at Nana Kromansah Park in Nsoatre during Asante Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League Matchweek 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC on February 3, 2025. Francis Yaw Frimpong, widely known as Nana Pooley, a member of Asante Kotoko’s supporters’ communication team, was fatally stabbed by unidentified individuals during the game.
According to an official statement from Asante Kotoko, Nana Pooley was attacked during an altercation in the second half of the match. He sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the Sunyani Regional Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but sadly, he succumbed to his wounds.
The tragic loss is even more heartbreaking as Nana Pooley had recently tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend in December 2024.
Asante Kotoko SC has strongly condemned the violent events that marred the fixture, expressing deep concerns over the hostility their team faced upon arrival at the stadium. The club revealed that their players and officials encountered confrontations from home supporters and endured repeated attacks throughout the game.
During the match, objects were hurled at the Kotoko bench multiple times, creating a dangerous environment for players and staff. The violence escalated when the club’s Head of Media suffered a serious ear injury after being struck by a projectile.
Asante Kotoko has reaffirmed its firm stance against hooliganism in football and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The club has called for swift action to ensure justice and the safety of all involved in the sport.
