The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the implementation of enhanced matchday safety and security protocols for the 2025 season. This decision follows concerns raised by Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak regarding security at match venues.
The new protocols, approved by the GFA Executive Council on February 12, 2025, apply to all competitions organized by the GFA. They introduce strict security measures, including the mandatory appointment of Club Safety and Security Officers (CSSOs), improved stadium security infrastructure, and accreditation regulations for access to designated areas.
Key aspects of the new measures include:
- Establishing Safety and Security Command Centres in all stadiums.
- Installing CCTV cameras at venues.
- Enforcing a 10-foot perimeter barrier to prevent pitch invasions.
- Restricting access to the Safe Zone to only accredited personnel.
Additionally, the GFA, in collaboration with CAF Safety and Security, will conduct training for Regional Sports Security Officers (RSSOs) and Matchday Security Coordinators (MSCs) to ensure effective implementation of these protocols.
Clubs that fail to comply with these regulations risk fines, venue bans, or match license revocations.
