Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil has raised the hopes of Ghanaian, by declaring that Ghana has the potential to win the World Cup.
The 27-year-old Ghanaian footballer, who plays for LA Galaxy in the MLS, made this declaration in an exclusive interview with The BAC Sports Channel.
“We can win the world cup, it’s possible and we have to win the world cup in 2026 and if we are not able to win the trophy, we should at least reach the finals.” He said.
Paintsil acknowledged that many may doubt the Black Stars’ ability to triumph in such a prestigious tournament, especially with formidable teams like Spain, Brazil, and Argentina also competing. However, he added that nothing is impossible and expressed confidence in the team’s self-belief.
This statement came in response to a question about what the players need to do to rekindle Ghanaian interest in the national team. He emphasized that achieving positive results in upcoming matches during the World Cup qualifiers is crucial, not only to qualify for the tournament but also to aim for victory.
The national team has faced challenges in recent matches and failed to qualify for next year’s AFCON in Morocco, leading to widespread disappointment and a loss of interest among many Ghanaian.
Joseph Paintsil admitted that they have let Ghanaian down and acknowledged the need for the team to rise up, improve their attitude and performance, and deliver the joy and results the supporters deserve.
