Henry Asante Twum, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has asserted that the responsibility for making the Black Stars’ budget public lies with the Ministry for Sports and recreation, not the GFA.
His statement follows President John Dramani Mahama’s directive during the State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, instructing the Minister for Sports and Recreation to ensure transparency by making national team budgets publicly accessible.
President Mahama emphasized the importance of transparency, stating, “There will be no secrecy in how much money the government puts into the national team. The budget that is presented by the FA and other associations must be made public because it’s the taxpayers’ money.”
In response, Asante Twum clarified that the GFA’s role is to prepare and submit the budget, while the Ministry for Sports and recreation is responsible for its approval and public disclosure. He stated, “Making the Black Stars’ budget public is not the responsibility of the Ghana Football Association. It is the responsibility of the Sports Ministry.” Henry said via sporty FM
