Cameroonian football icon Samuel Eto’o has secured a seat on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee, marking a pivotal step in his administrative career.
The President of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) was elected unopposed as the Central Africa representative during Wednesday’s CAF General Assembly in Cairo.
Eto’o’s candidacy faced initial hurdles when CAF’s governance committee blocked him in January. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned the decision last week, clearing the way for his participation in the election.
A four-time African Footballer of the Year, Eto’o previously faced a FIFA and CAF suspension related to ethical breaches involving a betting company sponsorship. The suspension and a $200,000 fine were later lifted on appeal.
Despite controversies during his tenure at Fecafoot, including disputes over coaching appointments, his election to CAF’s leadership underscores his enduring influence in shaping African football’s future.
