Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has called on Ghanaians to respect the decision to appoint Jordan Ayew as the new captain of the Black Stars.

Ahead of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed in a statement that the Leicester City forward will lead the national team.

Jordan Ayew takes over the captaincy from his elder brother, Andre Ayew, who has been left out of the squad. This decision follows Thomas Partey’s reported preference to focus solely on his playing role rather than assuming a leadership position.

Agyemang-Badu, who featured alongside Jordan Ayew at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, has urged Ghanaians to support the decision and focus on moving the team forward.

There is no time for blame games anymore; let’s reset the Black Stars. Jordan Ayew is the captain of the Black Stars; let’s respect that and move on. He told connect FM.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have officially opened camp in Accra, with their first training session set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco to face Madagascar on Monday, March 24.
