Kumasi Asante Kotoko head coach, Dr. Prosper Nertey Ogum, has downplayed title pressure, insisting that his side is not in a hurry to win the Ghana Premier League despite leading the table with just nine games to go.
Speaking after Kotoko’s 1-1 draw with Heart of Lions in Kpando on Sunday, Ogum emphasized that the team is focused on taking the campaign one game at a time rather than being carried away by their current position.
We are not in a rush to win the league, Ogum said. Our goal is to stay grounded and approach each game with the same mindset. There are still important matches ahead, and anything can happen in football.
Kotoko currently sit atop the Premier League standings with 46 points after 25 matches, having scored 27 goals and conceded 15. Their form has been consistent this season, and with a five-point cushion over third-placed Heart of Lions and a two-point lead over second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars, many fans believe the Porcupine Warriors are favorites to lift the title.
However, Ogum’s calm and calculated approach suggests a desire to keep his squad focused and avoid complacency in the crucial final stretch of the season.
The draw against Heart of Lions extended Kotoko’s unbeaten run but also showed that the race for the title remains tight. Teams like Bibiani Gold Stars, Hearts of Oak, and Bechem United are all within striking distance and capable of mounting late challenges.
