Head coach of Ghana’s U20 national team, Desmond Ofei, has shed light on the strategy that secured his side’s hard-fought victory against Senegal in the ongoing 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The Black Satellites faced off against the Young Teranga Lions earlier today in their second Group C fixture in Egypt. In a tightly contested encounter, Ghana edged out their opponents with a narrow 1-0 win, courtesy of a decisive goal from Emmanuel Mensah.
Speaking after the match, Coach Ofei attributed the win to his team’s tactical discipline and the effective game plan they executed on the day.
“It was a very difficult game, no doubt about that. But tactically, I believe we got it right,” Ofei told the Ghana Football Association’s official website.
He further explained, “Senegal came at us with a very direct and physical approach. It wasn’t easy, but our players showed great tactical discipline and fighting spirit throughout the game.”
The victory boosts Ghana’s chances of advancing to the knockout stage, with their final Group C match set against the Central African Republic.
A positive result in that encounter would seal qualification for the Black Satellites as they chase continental glory.
