In a decisive move to restore integrity and professionalism in Ghanaian sports, the Ministry for Sports & Recreation has cleared all outstanding salary arrears owed to both current and former members of the Black Stars technical team. The payment, which spans several years of accumulated debts, was spearheaded by Minister Kofi Adams and fulfills a key pledge by President John Mahama to bring fairness and accountability to the nation’s football administration.
Among those receiving payments are former head coaches and assistants who had been awaiting compensation for months and, in some cases, years.
Chris Hughton received his salary and signing fee for January 2024, while George Boateng and Didi Dramani were paid for their service from March 2023 to January 2024, including signing fees. C.K. Akonnor was compensated for outstanding wages owed as of January 2024, while David Duncan received partial payment for arrears dating back to February 2023. Maxwell Konadu, owed since November 2022, has also been settled.
The current technical team, led by head coach Otto Addo, along with assistants Joseph Laumann, John Paintsil, and goalkeeping coach Fatawu Dauda, have all received their salaries for the period of October 2024 to March 2025. Team manager Francis Bugri Tampuli was also paid for his work from April 2024 through March 2025.
Adams also announced plans to establish a National Sports Fund, aimed at ensuring prompt and sustainable financial support for national team staff. The fund is expected to prevent future delays in salaries and reinforce Ghana’s commitment to excellence in international sports.
