Former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Sammy Anim Addo, has passionately defended the legacy of former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, describing him as the greatest footballer Ghana has ever produced.
Speaking on SportyDrive on Sporty FM, Anim Addo hailed Gyan as a divine gift to Ghana football, emphasizing the striker’s unparalleled impact and achievements on the international stage.

Gyan, who remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals, has been a central figure in Ghana’s football history, having featured in three FIFA World Cups and scoring in each of them, a record for an African player.
However, Anim Addo also touched on the controversial absence of the former captain from Ghana’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. According to him, Gyan’s omission was not due to a lack of desire or ability, but rather the result of internal interests within the football setup.
He didn’t play at the 2022 World Cup because of some people’s interests, he said.
