Asante Kotoko Off to a Flying Start with Victory Over Karela United

Asante Kotoko began their 2024-25 Ghana Premier League season on a high note with a 1-0 win over Karela United at the Naa Sheriga Sports Centre in Nalerigu.

The Porcupine Warriors secured all three points in their opening match, thanks to a 36th-minute goal from Albert Amoah, a summer signing from Great Olympics.

Amoah’s decisive strike, which came after a well-executed team move, was enough to separate the two sides in a competitive fixture. Karela United, eager to bounce back after conceding, created several promising chances but were unable to find the back of the net.

Despite Karela’s persistent attempts to equalize, Kotoko’s defense remained solid, with the team demonstrating great resilience to preserve their narrow lead.

This win marks an excellent start to the season for Prosper Ogum’s side, as they aim to build momentum in the 2024-25 campaign.

Speaking after the match, Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum expressed his delight with the result, praising his players for their quality and determination.

“I’m very happy with the performance today,” Ogum stated. “The players showed a lot of character, and the quality in the squad was evident throughout the game. To come away with three points in a tough match like this is a great start for us.”

Ogum also highlighted the importance of starting the season on a positive note. “It’s always crucial to get off to a good start in the league, and the boys delivered.”

“We’ve been working hard in training, and I’m proud of how they executed our game plan today. There’s still work to be done, but this win gives us confidence moving forward,” he added.

With the victory, Asante Kotoko will look to build on their early success as they prepare for their next fixture at home to Nsoatreman FC.
