President of the Senegalese football association Augustin Senghor has resigned from his position as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) 1st Vice-President following his unsuccessful bid for a seat on the FIFA Council.

Augustin Senghor secured only 13 votes in the election, a result he viewed as a clear indication that his influence within African football governance had diminished.

The FIFA Council elections, held during a CAF extraordinary executive meeting, saw candidates from across the continent compete for coveted spots on the global football decision-making body.

However, Senghor’s poor performance in the poll appears to have prompted his decision to step down from his CAF role.
