Outgoing President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has made a passionate appeal for integrity, accountability, and transparency ahead of the Committee’s upcoming elections.
In a recent interview with Sporty FM, Nunoo Mensah stressed the importance of electing individuals with proven records and values that uphold the image and credibility of the GOC.
He emphasized that those seeking positions on the GOC board must be assessed based on their integrity, credibility, selflessness, and track record.
Elections onto the board of the GOC must be based on the integrity, credibility, selflessness, achievements and the records of these individuals who are seeking for these elective positions, he stated.
Nunoo Mensah further warned against blindly supporting candidates without proper scrutiny. He urged stakeholders to investigate not only the candidates but also those who are backing them, to ensure the GOC maintains its respect and reputation.
We need to carefully check the background of these individuals as well as those pushing or promoting them, so that the respect and good name of the GOC can be maintained at all times, he added.
His comments come at a crucial time as the GOC prepares for its elections—a period often marked by intense lobbying and political maneuvering within the sports fraternity.
As he prepares to hand over leadership, Nunoo Mensah’s call serves as both a warning and a guide for ensuring that the GOC continues on a path of growth and professionalism.
