Berekum Chelsea FC is under regulatory scrutiny after being charged with multiple breaches of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) FA Cup Regulations, 2019.
The charges stem from their actions during the MTN FA Cup semi-final clash against Asante Kotoko SC, held at the Tarkwa TNA Park.
According to a statement issued by the GFA, the club has allegedly violated Articles 1(c), 1(d), 2(c), 2(d), 2(e), and 14(f) of the regulations. The primary allegation is that Berekum Chelsea refused to display the branding of MTN, the competition’s lead sponsor, on the front of their official jersey during the high-stakes match. This move is said to be in direct defiance of a marketing directive issued by the GFA.
The football governing body emphasized the importance of upholding the commercial rights and sponsorship agreements that underpin the financial sustainability of its competitions. “Failure to comply with these directives undermines the integrity of our partnerships and the overall development of the sport,” the statement said.
Berekum Chelsea FC has been given a deadline of Monday, May 26, 2025, to formally respond to the charges laid against them.
