Black Galaxies Depart for Nigeria Ahead of CHAN Qualifiers Second Leg
Ghana’s Black Galaxies have departed for Nigeria to face the Super Eagles B team in the second leg of the CHAN qualifiers, following a goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The team left Ghana on Friday morning, December 27, determined to secure a favorable result that will guarantee their qualification for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The first-leg encounter, played under intense tactical discipline, saw both teams fail to find the back of the net despite several close opportunities. The Black Galaxies had moments of promise, particularly from Kotoko’s Albert Amoah, but their inability to convert chances proved costly.
The return leg is set for Saturday, December 28, 2024. A win or a scoring draw in Nigeria will see the Black Galaxies secure their spot in the CHAN tournament, which exclusively features players competing in their domestic leagues.
Head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to rise to the occasion in the second leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
“We know what’s at stake, and the players are fully focused. The goalless draw was not ideal, but it leaves the tie open, and we are going to Nigeria with one goal in mind—to win,” Dramani stated before departure.
The Black Galaxies will rely on the defensive solidity showcased by Razak Simpson and the attacking creativity of Jerry Afriyie and Amoah to break down the Nigerian defense.
With the away goals rule in play, any scoring draw will see Ghana advance.
