Cameroon Qualify for 2025 AFCON with Narrow Victory Over Kenya
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have secured their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kenya in the qualifiers.
The lone goal, scored by 24-year-old midfielder Boris Enow in the 63rd minute, was enough to send Cameroon to the prestigious tournament, which will be held in Morocco.
With this victory, Cameroon now sits comfortably with 10 points from four matches, joining Burkina Faso in securing early qualification with two games left to play. Kenya, who remain on four points, are now mathematically eliminated from contention due to their head-to-head record against Cameroon.
The game, held in a tense atmosphere, saw both teams create several chances, but Cameroon’s resilience paid off when Enow found the back of the net with a clinical finish just after the hour mark.
Despite Kenya’s efforts to equalize, the Cameroonian defense held firm, ensuring they booked their ticket to Morocco.
Cameroon’s qualification adds them to the growing list of teams that have confirmed their participation in next year’s tournament.
Algeria secures 2025 AFCON berth
In other development, Algeria, another African football powerhouse, also secured their place with a 1-0 victory over Togo.
The Fennecs took the lead early through a penalty converted by Ramy Bensebaini, ensuring their qualification as well.
Algeria, the 2019 AFCON champions, now join Burkina Faso, Cameroon, and host nation Morocco as the teams confirmed for the 2025 tournament.
With several matches still to be played in the qualifiers, more teams will look to secure their spots in what promises to be a highly competitive AFCON in Morocco.
