The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially awarded Egypt the hosting rights for the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025. The announcement comes after Côte d’Ivoire, the original host, withdrew due to unforeseen circumstances.
CAF confirmed in a statement that the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and the Egyptian government will now organize the prestigious youth tournament, having previously submitted a bid to host the event.
The tournament, which showcases Africa’s best Under-20 talents, is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, April 27, 2025, with the final set for May 18, 2025.
Egypt’s selection as the new host follows communication from the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (FIF) and the Ivorian government, notifying CAF of their inability to proceed with hosting duties. While specific reasons were not detailed, CAF acknowledged the challenges faced by Côte d’Ivoire.
This marks a significant moment for Egyptian football, as the country continues to strengthen its position as a leading destination for continental tournaments. Egypt has a strong history of successfully hosting major football competitions, including the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
